Welcome to Holy Trinity Eritrean Orthodox Tewahedo Church: A Testament to Faith and Unity in Chicago

​

Nestled in the heart of Chicago, Holy Trinity Eritrean Orthodox Tewahedo Church stands as a testament to unwavering faith, communal strength, and a deep commitment to the venerable traditions of the Eritrean Orthodox Tewahedo Church (EOTC). Since its establishment in 2007 by thirty devoted believers and their spiritual leader, our church’s journey from modest beginnings to creating our spiritual haven showcases the remarkable power of collective vision and divine grace.

Our pursuit of a dedicated sanctuary led us to repurpose a 16,000-square-foot commercial building at 7310 N Rogers Avenue, Chicago, IL 60626 into a sacred space for worship. Guided by Fr. Priest Hailemichael W. Fere and propelled by the extraordinary commitment of Girmai Berhe, who volunteered as project manager, we embarked on the ambitious task of transforming a commercial venue into a holy place of worship. Despite facing financial constraints, zoning challenges, and the need for significant renovations, our community’s determination remained steadfast. With generous support from our parishioners, sister Eritrean and Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo churches, and the wider community, we surmounted these hurdles to achieve our dream.

The inauguration of our church building on July 16, 2021, marked a pivotal moment in our history. This event signified more than the establishment of a physical edifice; it celebrated the creation of a spiritual oasis where our congregation can unite, worship, and flourish in faith.

​

Before settling in our permanent sanctuary, we were warmly accommodated by Ebenezer Lutheran Church in Chicago. Our story of growth continued as we later acquired an adjacent building at 7303-5 North Damen Avenue, Chicago, IL 60645 dedicated to our Educational and Communal use. Despite the challenge of another extensive renovation project, the unwavering support and tireless efforts of our parishioners and volunteers brought this vision to life.

Under the auspices of the Eritrean Orthodox Tewahedo Church Diocese of the United States of America and Canada, Holy Trinity Eritrean Orthodox Tewahedo Church is more than just a place of worship. We are a dynamic community committed to spiritual enrichment, fostering the social and intellectual development of children and families, and providing outreach services to those in need. Our history reflects our faith in action—a narrative of perseverance, unity, and the transformative power of God’s grace.
